Alleged Fake Cancer Claim: Calls Mount for Probe of Blessing CEO Over N13m Donations

Controversial influencer Blessing Okoro has come under heavy public criticism following claims that she falsely announced a breast cancer diagnosis and raised about N13 million in donations.

The backlash intensified after she reiterated her claims during an interview with online personality Egungun, insisting that any confusion surrounding her appeal for funds was due to a “miscommunication.” She maintained that she had no regrets over her actions.

However, many Nigerians have questioned the authenticity of her claims, with several social media users calling on the Nigeria Police Force to investigate the matter. Some users described the incident as fraudulent and urged authorities to take decisive action.

The controversy deepened following allegations that the medical report she presented was not genuine and may have belonged to another patient. Reports indicate that the family of the alleged original owner of the document has issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding a public apology or threatening legal action.

In a separate interview on Arise TV, Okoro appeared alongside medical practitioner Adefunke Arolowo and legal expert Inibehe Effiong, where she was challenged to provide credible evidence to support her claims.

During the discussion, Arolowo revealed that the doctor whose name appeared on the report had been contacted and reportedly denied issuing such a document, raising further doubts about its authenticity.

Legal analyst Oluwatodimu Ige stated that the situation presents serious legal concerns, noting that presenting a false medical report and soliciting funds under false pretence could constitute criminal offences.

He explained that if it is established that the claims were knowingly false, the case could amount to fraud. He further advised that the influencer should provide verifiable medical evidence and refund donors if the allegations are confirmed.

As the controversy continues to unfold, Okoro has reportedly deactivated her Instagram account, while pressure mounts on authorities to investigate the matter and ensure accountability.
