The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has shifted its presidential and governorship screening exercise to Monday, May 18, 2026, as political parties continue internal arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party made the announcement in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the screening exercise, which was initially scheduled for the weekend, has been postponed without any additional explanation.
“The African Democratic Congress wishes to inform all presidential and governorship aspirants that the party’s screening exercise earlier scheduled for this weekend has been postponed to Monday, May 18, 2026,” the statement read.
The party also disclosed changes to the screening arrangements for some federal House of Representatives aspirants from parts of Northern Nigeria affected by insecurity.
It said those affected will now be screened in Abuja due to the security situation in those regions.
“Furthermore, due to the security situation affecting some parts of Northern Nigeria, the screening of affected federal lawmakers’ aspirants will now take place in Abuja,” the statement added.
The ADC noted that all affected aspirants would be contacted directly with updated schedules and further instructions.
It also expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the adjustments, while thanking aspirants and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.
The development comes as political parties across the country intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with screening exercises playing a key role in determining eligible candidates for various positions.
The ADC, which is working to strengthen its national presence, has recently increased consultations and mobilisation efforts as political realignments continue to shape the build-up to the polls.
