A man identified as Livingston Nwakanma has been arrested by youths of Osaa Ukwu community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State following the alleged killing of his mother, Mrs Nwaigbe Nwakanma.

Livingston was reportedly apprehended by the community youths after fleeing from home following the incident.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly attacked his mother with a machete on Saturday, resulting in her death.

The deceased, popularly known as Daa Nwaigbe, was said to be a popular trader in the community’s local market. She was reportedly in her kitchen preparing to make soup when her son allegedly entered and attacked her.

The incident reportedly caused panic and mourning in the community, with residents expressing anger and shock over the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The suspect was described as a drug addict and mentally unstable, although these claims have not been independently verified.

The Abia State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident as of the time of filing the report.

However, the deceased’s husband, Dede Nwakanma, confirmed the incident and lamented the death of his wife.

The distraught father also disclosed that his son had allegedly been showing signs of mental instability for about four years.
