The Controller of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Abia State Command, Mrs Justina Nkechi Owa, has called for stronger cooperation with the Abia State Police Command to tackle human trafficking and regulate foreigners entering or residing in the state.

Owa made the call on Wednesday when she received the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi, who paid a visit to the Immigration Command office in Umuahia.

She stressed the importance of proper documentation of foreigners in the state, including the use of residence permits, popularly known as Brown Cards, to verify their identities and regulate their activities.

The Immigration Controller reaffirmed the commitment of her command to working closely with the Police to strengthen security and address security challenges across Abia State.

Owa also pledged that the command would provide officers to participate in the forthcoming capacity-building training programme being organised by the Abia State Police Command.

Earlier, CP Afolabi said his visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration and improving security across the state.

The Commissioner of Police emphasised that no security agency could operate effectively in isolation, noting that effective security depended on proper coordination and cooperation among the various agencies.

He also urged the Immigration Service to participate actively in the forthcoming capacity-building programme organised by the Abia Police Command.
