The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has congratulated the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in the state’s civil service, describing their appointments as recognition of competence, dedication and meritorious service.

In a special message, Emetu congratulated the successful candidates and said their elevation was a source of pride to their families, colleagues and local communities.

He also commended them for distinguishing themselves during the 2026 Permanent Secretary Selection Exercise, urging them to see their new positions not only as an achievement but also as a responsibility to the people of Abia State.

The Deputy Governor praised Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for maintaining what he described as a merit-based selection process in the state civil service.

According to Emetu, the process reflects the governor’s emphasis on professionalism, competence and excellence in public service.

He said the appointment of the new Permanent Secretaries should encourage other civil servants to remain committed to hard work, diligence and continuous professional development, with merit and competence serving as important factors in career progression.

Emetu further charged the appointees to justify the confidence placed in them by the governor and the people of Abia State by applying their experience, knowledge and expertise to the ministries where they would serve.

He urged them to maintain high standards of integrity, accountability, discipline and professionalism while working to ensure that government policies and programmes translate into tangible benefits for residents.

The Deputy Governor also offered prayers for Governor Otti, asking God to preserve him, grant him good health, wisdom, strength and divine protection as he continues to lead the state.
