The Abia State Police Command has clarified that the armed security personnel seen in a viral video assaulting a lady and her brother at Okigwe on Monday were not officers of the command but community vigilante operatives.

The clarification followed public outrage in Abia and Imo States over the assault of the two bus passengers who were travelling towards Abia State University, Uturu.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, explained that Okigwe is not within the jurisdiction of the Abia State Police Command.

Chinaka stressed that the armed men involved in the assault were not personnel of the Abia Police Command but vigilante operatives.

She added that the operatives had already been apprehended.
