The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of dealing in stolen motorcycles and drugs, recovering three motorcycles, a locally made gun and a 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be cannabis.

The suspect, identified as Ebuka Nwakerindu from Umuokoromiri Village in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, was arrested following a police operation in Obingwa Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi.

According to the statement, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit acted on actionable intelligence and raided a suspected criminal hideout at Onitsha Ngwa, Obingwa LGA, on September 23, 2026.

The police said the suspects fled when they sighted the operatives, but the officers recovered a locally made single-barrel long gun and a 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa.

The command said further operations led to Nwakerindu’s arrest on September 24, 2026. Three motorcycles suspected to have been stolen were also recovered from him.

The police statement said the suspect allegedly specialised in stealing and reselling motorcycles.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who escaped during the operation, while the recovered items have been kept in police custody, the command said.

The police added that Nwakerindu would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

The operation, according to the statement, was conducted in line with the directive of the Abia State Commissioner of Police and the Inspector-General of Police’s emphasis on intelligence-led policing.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to “intelligence-driven operations, proactive crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property across the State”.
