Stakeholders from Abia North, under the Alliance for Good Governance, have reaffirmed their support for Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s bid for a second term in the 2027 governorship election.

The group made its position known at a meeting held on Saturday at the Isieke Civic Centre, Ugwueke, in Bende Local Government Area of the state. Its Secretary and spokesperson, Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, presented the communique issued at the end of the meeting. �

Mkpa said the stakeholders were interested in sustaining what they described as the governance model introduced by the Otti administration, adding that they wanted future administrations to continue with the framework beyond 2031.

The group also resolved to intensify voter education, particularly at the grassroots and among people with limited literacy, as part of its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 election.

It further called on youths not to succumb to pressure or inducement from political opponents or sell their votes.

Mkpa said the group considered it necessary to move beyond expressing support for Otti and actively mobilise for his re-election.

The stakeholders described the Alliance for Good Governance as a non-partisan platform of Abia North elders and other influential stakeholders. They said their objective was to contribute to discussions on the direction of governance in the state. �

In separate remarks, former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uchechukwu Ogah, and former Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings, Urum Kalu Eke, said the stakeholders were putting structures in place ahead of the 2027 general elections.

They also expressed the view that Abia residents should be more deliberate about the people entrusted with public offices.

The convener of the alliance, Ebueme Ezikpe, and the host of the meeting, Johnson Chukwu, said the platform was established to bring together opinion leaders and people with influence to discuss and shape the future direction of governance in Abia.

They also highlighted what they regarded as achievements of the Otti administration and said the group was interested in sustaining its approach to governance beyond the governor’s tenure.
