Abia Labour Party Leaders, Stakeholders Reaffirm Support For Gov. Otti, Unveil 2027 Strategy Roadmap At Historic Umuahia Meeting

The Labour Party in Abia State on Saturday convened an extraordinary leaders and stakeholders meeting at the iconic Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, where party faithful, elected officials, and critical stakeholders unanimously reaffirmed their confidence in the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and outlined strategic plans ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Representing the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, at the meeting, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, described the gathering as a remarkable demonstration of unity, loyalty, and growing confidence in the Labour Party-led administration in the state.

Engr. Emetu commended party members and stakeholders for their unwavering support for the government’s reform-driven agenda, noting that the present administration inherited enormous liabilities rather than assets upon assumption of office in May 2023 but has remained resolute in rebuilding and repositioning Abia State.

“We are not doing this for showmanship; we are doing this to salvage what is left in Abia State,” the Deputy Governor stated.

He expressed satisfaction with the growing strength and cohesion within the party structure, assuring members that the administration would continue consolidating on its achievements as it approaches its third anniversary in office.

The Deputy Governor further charged party faithful to intensify grassroots mobilization, strengthen party structures at the polling unit level, and remain vigilant ahead of future electoral contests.

“We don’t want to leave anything to our opponents. All we need is to sweep the national elections and also clear the governorship elections,” he declared.

In his opening remarks, the State Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, praised Governor Otti for sustaining and strengthening the party through difficult political periods, describing him as a transformational leader who has changed the political narrative in Abia State.

Hon. Azubuike emphasized the need for the party to deepen its grassroots presence through the establishment of fully functional party offices across the 17 local government areas and over 400 wards in the state, adding that the newly unveiled roadmap was designed to reposition the Labour Party into a more visible, organized, and dominant political institution in Abia State.

Former Deputy Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, commended Governor Otti’s leadership style and noted that the administration had repositioned Abia among Nigeria’s leading states. He urged party members to remain politically strategic and adaptive ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma, described Abia State as a model for the party nationwide, attributing the progress recorded in the state to Governor Otti’s performance in office. He urged party members and candidates to embrace unity, collective planning, and coordinated political engagement ahead of future elections.

In his remarks, former National Secretary of the Labour Party, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, described the newly unveiled party roadmap as visionary, inclusive, and capable of expanding the party’s influence across the state and beyond. He expressed confidence that the growing strength of the party in Abia would continue to attract more influential political figures into its fold.

Also addressing the gathering, Senatorial aspirant for Abia North, Chief David Ogba Onuoha, stated that Governor Otti had restored public confidence in governance and demonstrated that leadership could positively transform society. He cautioned party members against complacency, stressing that opposition forces remained active despite losing political power in the state.

Chief Onuoha further advocated regular financial contributions from elected Labour Party officials toward party development and supported the acquisition of operational buses for all local government areas to strengthen grassroots coordination and campaign mobilization. He also called for expanded electronic membership registration across wards, noting that organized voter data would play a crucial role in future elections.

A major highlight of the meeting was the unveiling of the official Abia Labour Party website, designed as a strategic digital platform for political organization, voter engagement, and election monitoring across the state.

The platform will feature polling unit search functions with voter card codes, contact directories of ward and local government executives, volunteer registration opportunities, mobile accessibility, and an online election monitoring system covering all 1,064 polling units in Abia State.

The fundraising session coordinated by the member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, witnessed overwhelming support and commitments from stakeholders and elected officials. Hon. Onwusibe disclosed plans for sustained monthly financial contributions from National Assembly members, state lawmakers, local government officials, and political appointees to strengthen the party structure and activities across the state.

The meeting was attended by elected members of the National Assembly and Abia State House of Assembly, Mayors and Councillors, national and state leaders of the Labour Party, members of the State Working Committee, local government and ward executives, and other stakeholders across the state.
