The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to take part in the party’s presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi was screened by the party’s screening committee, led by former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu, during an exercise held in Abuja on Tuesday.
The development was confirmed by Obi in a post shared on his X handle on Wednesday.
According to him, the screening process lasted over two and a half hours, during which his academic certificates, NYSC documents, and age declarations were thoroughly examined.
He added that he also responded to questions on his vision for Nigeria and his views on the type of leadership the country requires at this time.
Obi stated that he was subsequently cleared and issued the presidential nomination form he had previously purchased.
He commended the screening committee for what he described as a careful and professional process, while also appreciating the party leadership for upholding internal democracy.
“I want to praise the screening committee, headed by former governor Sam Egwu, for their careful and professional work. I also want to thank our party’s leaders for supporting the democratic process. A New Nigeria is POssible,” he wrote.
